Tregaron triathlete to cover 1,400 miles in 10 days for cancer charity

Toby Hellman, 55, from Tregaron will take on a deca iron distance race later this month to raise money for Cancer Research Wales. The race, which he will be completing up in Yorkshire, will challenge him to swim 2.4 miles, run 26.2 miles and cycle 112 miles every day for ten days.

Challenge brings in £2,500 for DPJ Foundation

Staff members from Menter a Busnes have raised almost £2,500 for charity after their long-distance walk and cycle challenge.

On 23 June, Menter a Busnes took on the challenge of walking and cycling up to 170km for farming mental health charity the DPJ Foundation. The challenge saw staff walk or cycle one of six routes for the charity.

AN Aberystwyth University graduate has been commissioned by the BFI and Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff to produce a short film. Alister Malcolm, 23, attended Aberystwyth University to study filmmaking, since graduating last year Alister has had his work featured in the Ceredigion Museum, worked on a feature length film and has now been commissioned to produce his own work for the British Film Institute.

New Quay RNLI try out new vessel

RNLI New Quay have trialled a new all-weather lifeboat ahead of receiving their own in 2024.

Last week, New Quay RNLI entered the next phase of their launch and recovery trials with the Shannon class all-weather lifeboat.

On 21 June, visitors to the harbour were greeted by the sight of 33.2 metre barge sailing up the lifeboat slipway, this was to make way for the new equipment which was being trialled that day.

Marathon man gives £2,000 to air ambulance

Jason Jarrams, 34, from Llwyncelyn has raised around £2,000 as a thank you to Wales Air Ambulance after they saved his and his brother-in-law’s life following a road traffic accident.

The pair were involved in a collision which saw two air ambulances attend the scene and Jason’s brother-in-law Jordan, airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff to treat his injuries.

The event saw four teams battle it out to become Jr. NBA Basketball Wales League champions. These teams, each representing a Welsh school, were whittled down from 32 to come head-to-head on the final day.

While livestock, grain and vegetables are the usual harvest for farmers, after a suggestion from his daughter, Mr Williams decided to convert a patch of his farm into a wildflower meadow.

Wife says services offered ‘little to no help’ before husband’s death

THE wife of a Ponterwyd man who took his own life has told an inquest he was offered ‘little to no help’ from support services.

Mrs Harry, Christopher’s wife, told the inquest at Aberystwyth Justice Centre last week, that while Mr Harry had been struggling with mental health for a number of years, this struggle was particularly exacerbated by the Covid-19 lockdowns.

A NEW local film festival is looking for submissions ahead of its debut event.

The Tonnau Short Film Festival is a newly established filmmaking event hoping to debut this year. The festival, established by a group of Aberystwyth University students aims to host a number of short films at its event in early May.

Mind games: Pair’s hairy stunt raises £7K for charity

A CHARITY head-shave by a pair of friends from Bow Street Football Club has raised more than £7,000 for a good cause.

Dean Elgan Evans and Garmon Nutting say they have raised over £7,000 for Mind by shaving their hair at a recent event.

The pair, who met playing football together, wagered that one of them would outlast the other before cutting their hair.
